In 2006, a single editor could make or break a colour. The film’s most quoted scene, the cerulean speech, was a lecture on how taste trickles down from a small room of people to everyone else.

The room has emptied

The sequel lands in an industry where that room has been dispersed across millions of phones. Influence is measured in views, not mastheads; a teenager with a ring light can move more product than a September issue.

What still holds

And yet the core of the first film endures: someone, somewhere, is still choosing what the rest of us will think we chose. The question is only who, and whether they are accountable to anyone.
